Dedicated to supporting a more sustainable energy future.
PROJECTS
Experts in servicing projects
The team members at Applica are experts in servicing projects in the energy sector (chemicals, oil and gas, renewables, and energy transition) globally.
We take a holistic approach and design solutions which support the entire project life cycle; around quality, time and cost in the same way a project director would measure the outcomes of their project.
Pre-FEED
Pre-FEED (Front-End Engineering and Design) or conceptual engineering, is the preliminary stage of a project where the project’s initial concept is developed.
It involves defining the project scope, developing the overall project concept, and creating a preliminary design of the required facilities. During this stage, engineers evaluate the project’s technical and economic feasibility, identify potential risks and opportunities, and create a project plan that serves as a roadmap for the entire project life cycle.
Applica support Clients during this stage through the provision of experienced project discipline design engineers and expert cost and planning professionals.
FEED
FEED (Front End Engineering Design) is Basic Engineering which is conducted after completion of the Pre-FEED or conceptual engineering.
At this stage, before the start of EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction), various studies take place to identify technical issues and estimate rough investment cost. FEED can be divided into separate packages covering different portions of the project. The FEED package is used as the basis for bidding for Engineering, Procurement and Construction contracts (EPC, EPCI, etc) and is used as the design basis (or Basis of Design).
This phase is pivotal to the project. During this phase of a project we not only provide expert engineers, procurement and estimating professionals to our Clients, but we also provide consultancy and market intelligence around;
- Talent availability
- Benchmarking
- Projects terms and conditions
- Visas and Immigration challenges
- Global mobility
- Effective project retention schemes
- Manpower scheduling
- Recruitment process design
EPC
EPC (Engineering Procurement and Construction), also referred to as the execution phase, is the stage where detailed engineering and design, procurement of the necessary equipment and materials, and the construction takes place.
It is the main part of any major project and is often outsourced. During the engineering part, all departments and disciplines work together to determine and produce the optimal design for overall project success that balances budget and efficiency. After the design is completed, a set of discipline drawings are produced for the construction team to use.
Procurement is the second part of EPC that involves all sourcing, purchasing, and inspecting of products, materials, services, and equipment required for construction.
Construction is the last phase of the EPC phase. This is where the construction team comes together to fulfill the predetermined deadlines and goals per the scope of the project.
In addition to sourcing skilled technical professionals, by EPC phase, many of our Clients engage us to manage the whole recruitment and onboarding process for the project, which can cover;
- Design and management of the recruitment process
- Creation of Job description and person specification
- Benchmarking
- Create and promote project branding proposition
- Sourcing suitably qualified technical talent pool
- Technical vetting and shortlisting
- Interviewing
- Offer management
- Onboarding
Completions and Operations
Once the EPC phase is complete, it’s essential to verify and document that a project and all its components and systems are installed, inspected, tested, operated and managed as designed.
This stage of the project is where the commissioning and final handover takes place. The state of “completeness” to the pre-defined criteria is assessed, and the build is tested to ensure it meets the design requirements. The commissioning process will check, inspect and test every operational component of the project: from individual functions up to complex amalgamations. Once completions and commissioning has been carried out, the final handover of the project to the operational phase takes place.
Applica provides complete commissioning teams to support this stage of the project and then resource the skills to move the project into ongoing operations.
"Working with the team at Applica was an absolute pleasure. They took the time to truly listen and understand, and they managed the whole process brilliantly. Thanks to their guidance, my opinion of Applica has only grown stronger."
