Our client positions itself as a project architect and systems integrator with deep domain expertise in the front-end stages of complex capital projects, especially those tied to the energy transition. The firm’s approach emphasises Front-End Loading (FEL) excellence, techno-economic expertise, systems engineering mindset and outcome-oriented delivery.
About the Role:
Our client looking for experienced Principal Consultant (10–15 years’ experience) to join io the Safety & Risk team to support io on a range of FEL1 to FEL3 studies across energy transition, oil & gas, CCS projects.
Here you will:
• Lead and deliver advanced technical safety & risk solutions – including consequence modelling, frequency assessments, concept safety screening , QRA, ALARP demonstration, safety case development, and wider formal safety studies.
• Act as a technical authority, reviewing outputs and guiding projects to meet high standards of quality, cost, and schedule.
• Expand io’s offering into adjacent areas such as FTA, RCA, FMECA, and human factors engineering, shaping strategy and strengthening our market position.
• Support clients in meeting regulatory and legislative obligations through clear, authoritative analysis and advice.
• Play a key role in business development, proposals, and client engagement.
• Take ownership of technical direction and project outcomes.
• Mentor and coach junior engineers, building capability within the team.
About You:
They're looking for someone with:
• A degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or other relevant STEM field.
• 10–15 years of experience in technical safety and risk, ideally with exposure to high-hazard industries (energy, oil & gas, chemicals, renewables).
• Proven track record delivering complex technical safety/risk analyses at a senior level.
• Strong background in tools and methodologies such as PHAST, SAFETI, FERA, QRA, dropped objects, EERA, ESSA, HAZOP, LOPA, etc
• Experience in safety and loss prevention: hazardous area classification, firewater demand calculations, passive fire protection schedules
• Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, combined with strong communication and report writing ability.
• Strong technical background with the ability to lead teams and drive quality
• A collaborative, proactive, and flexible approach to consultancy work.
