Principal Project Engineer (Installation Methods)
Job Title: Principal Project Engineer (Installation Methods)
Location: Paris, France.
Contract: 12 months, renewable.
About the Role
The Principal Project Engineer (Installation Methods) provides senior-level technical leadership and engineering expertise within a global pipeline installation environment, supporting complex offshore projects across both tendering and execution phases. This role is central to the development, coordination, and optimization of pipeline installation methodologies, ensuring safe, efficient, and technically robust offshore operations.
You will work within or lead multidisciplinary installation engineering teams, acting as a technical authority on offshore pipeline installation methods, including reel lay, S-lay, and J-lay operations. The position requires close collaboration with project teams, internal stakeholders, and subcontractors to deliver installation solutions aligned with project objectives, vessel capabilities, and operational constraints.
Core responsibilities include supporting projects from early-stage engagement through offshore execution, preparing installation method statements and procedures, contributing to subcontractor selection, and supporting procurement, fabrication, and testing activities related to installation aids. The role also involves performing installation rigging calculations and rigging design to ensure safe and effective offshore lifting and handling operations.
Additionally, you will support tendering activities by contributing to feasibility studies, methodology development, schedule inputs, manhour estimates, and costing considerations. The position places strong emphasis on HSEQ compliance, technical problem-solving, operational reporting, and ensuring installation readiness. Offshore follow-up of assigned scopes may be required.
About You
You are a highly experienced offshore installation or project engineer with strong expertise in subsea pipeline installation methods and offshore operations. You are comfortable operating at a senior level, providing technical guidance, solving complex engineering challenges, and coordinating across multidisciplinary project teams.
You hold a degree qualification in Engineering, Marine, Naval, Offshore Technology, Civil, Mechanical, or a related discipline, supported by extensive experience within the offshore energy industry. Practical knowledge of reel lay operations and broader pipeline installation techniques is highly desirable.
You are recognized for your technical judgment, proactive approach to risk management and problem-solving, and ability to communicate effectively across all organizational levels. The ability to work both independently and within collaborative teams is essential.
What’s on Offer
This position offers the opportunity to contribute to technically demanding offshore projects within a dynamic, internationally focused engineering environment. The role provides strong professional development prospects, exposure to advanced installation methodologies and technologies, and involvement in critical offshore operations within a culture that prioritizes safety, innovation, and engineering excellence.
