At Applica, hiring decisions are shaped by values as well as skills. Technical capability matters, but so does character, motivation and the willingness to contribute to a fast evolving culture. Matt argues that culture is not something to preserve unchanged. It is something that evolves with every person who joins the company.

This thinking led Applica to invest in a dedicated talent acquisition function. Many companies of a similar size do not take this step, but Matt wanted to protect the quality of hiring as the organisation continued to grow. This resulted in Abeera Rana being promoted into a Senior Talent Acquisition role, ensuring the hiring approach remains resilient and aligned to Applica’s values.
