On the 3rd of November 2025, the Applica’s senior leadership team CEO Matthew Hallé, COO, Louisa Batten, and Group Finance Director, Angela Sorton took part in CEO Sleepout Manchester, joining business leaders from across the region to raise funds and awareness for homelessness and poverty.
The team spent the night outdoors at Emirates Old Trafford Cricket Club, choosing to step away from the warmth and comfort of home to support a cause that holds personal meaning for all three leaders. Their fundraising efforts were dedicated to Mustard Tree, an Ancoats-based charity that provides vital support, opportunities, and dignity to people facing homelessness across Greater Manchester.
From the outset, Applica committed to taking part as a team. As Matthew Hallé explained:
“We’re braving the cold for a cause close to our hearts raising vital funds for Mustard Tree, a charity dedicated to tackling homelessness and poverty here in Manchester. This is more than just one night outside. It’s about driving awareness, supporting change, and giving back to our community.”
For Louisa Batten, the event carried personal significance, stemming from her early experiences volunteering:
“I’ve been passionate about this cause ever since my best friend at university roped me into volunteering at a homeless shelter in Hull. What struck me back then and still does, is how easily life’s circumstances can change for anyone. With the cost of living continuing to soar, it’s sadly becoming a reality for more and more people.”
She added that while a single night under the stars cannot replicate the challenges many face daily, taking part was a meaningful way to highlight the issue and encourage support.
For Angela Sorton, Mustard Tree has been close to her heart for more than three decades:
“We are raising money for Mustard Tree, a charity that has been part of my life for 31 years. My design was chosen as their very first logo when I had a head full of creativity, not just numbers. Every penny helps this wonderful 360-degree charity that supports people into housing, furnishes homes, and helps many into the workplace always with dignity and respect at the forefront.”
The team approached the sleepout with humility, recognising how fortunate they were to face only one cold night, while many endure the reality of homelessness every day. Their fundraising target was reached thanks to generous contributions from colleagues, clients, friends, and members of the wider Applica community.
For Applica, giving back is an important part of the company’s culture. Supporting Mustard Tree through CEO Sleepout aligns with the business’s commitment to social impact, community engagement, and championing causes that matter in the regions where the team works.
The event was not only a symbolic gesture, but a reminder of the role organisations can play in tackling inequality and supporting local charities that make a tangible difference.
Applica is proud of Matt, Lou and Ange for their dedication and for representing the company in such an important initiative and even prouder that their efforts will support individuals across Greater Manchester who need it most.
